Replying
Reply From Your Alias, Without Revealing Your Real Address
Reply to a forwarded Emcognito message the way you would reply to anything else, from whatever mail app you already use. The reply leaves as your alias address, so the person on the other end sees the alias and never your real address. This is included on every plan, Free as well — it is not a paid unlock.

How it works
- Every message Emcognito forwards to you carries a Reply-To pointing back through Emcognito.
- Hitting reply in your mail app addresses the message there — there is nothing to install, enable, or copy and paste.
- Emcognito checks the reply came from the address that owns the alias, rewrites the sender to the alias, and sends it on.
- The recipient sees your alias. Your real address is not in the From line they receive.
What it costs
- Nothing extra. Replying is included on every plan, Free included.
- A reply counts as one send against your monthly allowance, the same as a forwarded message does.
- There is no per-alias reply toggle to buy and no reply add-on.
When a reply will not go out
- The alias is suspended or deleted — a reply to a dead alias is not delivered.
- The reply is sent from an address other than the one that owns the alias. This is what stops someone who has seen your alias from sending mail as you.
- You are out of monthly sends. The reply is held under the same rules as an over-cap forward.
Why this is worth saying out loud
An alias that can only receive is half an address. If a seller, a landlord, or a support desk writes back and you cannot answer without breaking cover, the alias stops being useful at exactly the moment it mattered. Several alias providers put replying behind their paid tier. Emcognito does not, and this page exists so nobody has to guess.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to reply from the Emcognito website?
No. Reply from whatever mail app you already read the message in. The reply address is already in the message.
Is replying a paid feature?
No. It is included on every plan, Free as well. If you ever see something on this site suggesting replies are a paid unlock, that copy is wrong — please tell us.
Can the person I reply to see my real email address?
The message is sent from your alias, and that is the address in the From line they receive. Be aware that anything you type into the body yourself — a signature, a phone number, an address — is sent as written.
Does a reply use up my monthly sends?
Yes. A reply counts as one send, the same as a message forwarded to you.
What happens if someone else tries to reply using my alias?
It is not sent. Emcognito checks that a reply came from the account that owns the alias before sending anything, so knowing the alias address is not enough to send mail as it.
