Every message that arrives at one of your anonymous aliases and gets forwarded to your real inbox counts as one. Aliases themselves are free — you can make as many as you want on any plan.

Plus ($2/mo) is the entry plan for initiating private conversations: compose new mail from any alias, forward up to 2,500 messages a month, and remove the sponsor card. Pro ($4/mo) is for heavier composing and forwarding, with higher daily compose capacity and 15,000 forwards a month.

No — an alias is an address you've already handed out, so we never change one. Upgrading changes the format of aliases you create from then on: k7m4-9xrt@emcognito.com instead of the longer legacy format. Aliases you create on Plus or Pro keep working if you later cancel.

When a forwarded email arrives, the Reply-To header is rewritten so you can hit reply in your normal mail client (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail) and the recipient still sees only your alias — your real address is never exposed.

Yes. Compose from an alias is a Plus and Pro feature: a web form that sends brand-new mail from your alias, so the recipient only ever sees the alias — never your real inbox. Their replies come back to you as normal forwards. Replying to mail forwarded to you stays free on every plan; composing new mail is paid because a card on file is our strongest anti-abuse control. Once you pass 100 forwards, mail may wait undelivered for up to 72 hours while the bounded holding area has capacity. Upgrade within the displayed hold window to release mail that is still held. Mail refused because the hold is full, or deleted after its window expires, is permanently missed and cannot be recovered — the sender is never notified either way.

Stripe uses the billing details you enter to determine whether tax applies. Any tax Stripe calculates is shown in the hosted checkout before you confirm payment.

Yes — one click in your billing settings, and we never charge you again from that moment. You keep the plan you've already paid for until the period ends, then the account moves to Free. No contracts, no cancellation fee, nobody to email. We don't refund the unused part of a period, so there's no refund to chase.

Every existing account was grandfathered for 90 days at the Plus cap (2,500/month), and we notified affected users ahead of the change. When that window closes the account moves to Free (100/month) — your aliases and history stay exactly as they are; only the monthly forward cap changes. If you'd like to keep the higher cap, you can upgrade to Plus or Pro anytime.
